Case conventions for account name in Mac OS X?

What are the conventions about the short account name in Mac OS X regarding upper and lower case? If my user is "Dennis Madsen", should my account name be "dennis" or "Dennis"?

IIRC, it can be either, but it is case-sensitive.

I find it strange that the article states this.

Not questioning you personally or anything, just the article. I can't see why they would say only lowercase. I've been using "Chris" with a capital as my short name for years, since Tiger, and never had a single problem.

I've also changed shortnames to new names with a capitalized first letter and never had any trouble.

Very odd that they would say that. Even when setting up a new Mac, I always set my short name to "Chris".
