So I bought a late 2011 Macbook Pro from a guy who fell on hard times. It only cost me about $150.

The only problem (which I am not being picky about mind you) is that the unibody has some severe scratching.

Is there any place where I can order the top lip portion of and bottom body of unibody for a fair price?

You sure it's not stolen?

Just throw a speck case on it.

It's UNIbody. You'll end up replacing more parts than the computer is worth, trying to get rid of the scratches.

I'm almost positive it is not stolen. He knew the password and everything. Is there anyway to be sure?

The only major scratches or on the top, I would be willing to spend at least $500 on repairs if needed.

True, but without being too judgmental, I think he was just really in a position where he needed the money.
if it was definitely stolen, how would I contact the original owner? Would the apple store have a phone number on file?

They won't give it to you if they do. "Privacy" reasons

Turn the serial number in at the local police department?
