Traded in my 1st generation iPad at Target for an iPad Air. The 1st generation had an Otterbox Defender case on it because it was occassionally handled by a 6, 8, an 10 year old and I didn't want to see it dropped, wet, etc.

It looks like Otterbox has yet to release their defender case. Are there any other good suggestions? Anything that will mildly or adequately protect until they release theirs?

Thanks.

You could try the Griffin Technology Survivor case. They are equivalent to the Otterbox Defender case and are already available for the Air.

I am soon getting this:
SUPCASE Beetle Defense Series for Apple iPad Air Full-body Hybrid Protective Case with Built-in Screen Protector (Black/Black) - Dual Layer Design and Impact Resistant Bumper (Fit iPad 5th Generation)

Otterbox is highly overrated. I'd get the Survivor case if I was you. Or better yet, the Tough Armor whenever that shows up for the Air... But if you need extra screen protection, the Survivor would be better.

Any other recommendation. I have a Mini With Retina.

Otterbox Defender Case is Mini first version only.
Beetle Supcase mentioned above isn't available until January.

What else is available for 2nd gen Mini with Retina for kids???

Depends on the kids

I have a 7 year old daughter. She is really good with taking care of things. She probably broke 2 glasses in her life so far.

So I use a SmartCase for my iPad Air. I asked her to be careful when handling it. I trust her more than many adults when it comes to handling fragile things because once told, she is very mindful of it.

She is by no mean unique. We have many kids her age for playdates all the time, and many are like her.

While it's good to get as protective a case as you think it's necessary for the kids you have, it's even more important to teach them to take care of things. Most of them do extremely well given the chance.

Why is the Survivor better than the Defender (and vice-versa)?

Yea the survivor is the way to go take it from experience had a 2 year old and a 5 year old that used my iPad and it still looks like the day I purchased it and it's been dropped and thrown around a bit. I can't speak on the otterbox cause I don't have one but the survivor is definitely more rugged looking

I didn't think there was a difference between the 2 minis.

Anyway, I got this case for my girls' mini (5 and 7yo)
They like it (cause its pink), and it seems to provide good protection. Also it has this AMS attachment port in the back for these attachments.

I got the headrest mount and they like to watch movies on it in the car.

This looks good.
