This is my first iPhone with the camera control.

Looking at cases it seems there’s 3 versions:
- an added “button” that passes through and it seamless with the case
- a slight indent and thin layer of TPU cover
- indent/full cutout - access to original button

Presumably the 3rd is the cheapest to make, but what’s the true downside of these?

I suppose the original button/case is “exposed” in that area, but it also seems like such an awkward spot to actually get damaged in a fall.

I could also see it simply being another spot for dust or debris to enter… though the entire front lip of all cases is also surely prime for that problem.

Soo yeah, what’s the actual downside of no integrated camera control in the case?

Not sure if there's a downside specifically but if you're someone that uses it I could see the operation of it being awkward as it would limit the left/right sliding since it's not flush. Pretty sure most companies that did this when the "button" was created were to simply either cut cost or they didn't understand how the haptics had worked yet. I'm seeing more companies that had a cut out in gen 1 now have a button for it.

I’ve disabled the adjustments and already use it basically as just a camera launcher

I have tried a couple cases but haven’t landed on anything just yet. At first glance the exposed camera control isn’t my fave, but yeah realistically it doesn’t feel “exposed” and so I don’t THINK I should be too worried about lack of protection…
