Looks like Catalina is much better a memory management.

I usually keep about 10 - 12 Safari tabs open, 8 Chrome tabs open, and 2 - 3 stand alone apps, all running at one. On my 16gb RAM machine, I am down to around 500mb free RAM a lot on Mojave.

Now that Catalina is running, I have the same tasks going but am seeing around 4GB free RAM. And things are much, much faster!

Is this unique to my situation or is everyone seeing the same thing?

Are you sure its not just that by upgrading a lot of the background bloat you built up on Mojave is not there, give it time :) . Personally not seeing any difference and would not expect to.
