I am finally ready to buy a Drobo (4-bay USB2/FW) for my Mac mini media center (bouncing back and forth b/w plex and boxee, but that is another forum post). I know that I want WD Caviar Green drives. I don't know whether I want the older EADS or the newer advanced format EARS drives. The newer ones are cheaper (for the price of 1 TB EADS drives I can get 1.5 TB EARS drives). I know that the EARS require the newest Drobo firmware updates, and that the EARS don't play well with Windows XP. I cannot imagine using this with XP (although, the Drobo will stream content to Macs all over the house). Which drives are better. Should I spend a little extra to get the older EADS because they work, or are the EARS actually better for OS X?

Whatever is cheapest.

How much research have you done on Drobos?

On the 3 other mac forums I visit, I would say more people dont like them over liking them.

I dont own one (if I was looking for that size, Id probably pickup an OWC or promise RAID 5) -- but I just thought I would throw that out there...
