Any card can be damaged - plastic or metal.
I don't put my cards in denim that has not been washed (bleeding color transfer) because not only will it stain my card, but also my cars' beige leather seats.

Similar to the Apple card's metallic material, my Amex Platinum card which is thicker and heavier gets scratched up due to normal use but still works.

If your Apple card starts to look bad, just message GS and have them replace it free of charge....

Easy peasy....
