So my superdrive is no longer able to burn or read DVDs but burns and reads CDs just fine. I've been experiencing this problem with multiple programs.
Anybody have an idea on what may be the problem?

If you can, try the DVD in another computer.

If it works there, most likely it's a bad drive. If your Mac Pro is still under warranty, call Apple. If not, you can replace it with any PATA/IDE burner.

Take a look at System Profiler > Hardware >> Disc Burning and report (copy & paste) back what it says there.
