I have a MBP, I bought it new one year ago and I'm using Leopard.

This problem started a few days ago. When I put in a CD or DVD the drive rarely will act normally. Now it seems it won't work at all. It just makes a pulsating sound as if it can't spin the disk properly. Before, sometimes it would make more of a buzzing sound.

To get it to stop making the pulsating sound I have to restart the computer and hold down the trackpad to eject the disk.

Anyone have any ideas?

Just trying to save the hour trip to the Apple Store.

I regret to tell you that your superdrive has failed.

The same thing happened to me this morning when I tried to burn DVDs on my brand new MacBook Pro and I had to take it back to PC World to get a replacement. I only bought my MacBook Pro last week:(

I wonder if Apple stick cheap crap superdrives in their machines.

Does the disc stay stuck if you don't eject it yourself or does it eject on its own after a while? If it is the latter, the laser may be dirty and may be remedied by getting a laser cleaner. Otherwise, there are some other things you can try like resetting the SMC and etc as listed by Apple as a trouble shooting solution.
