hey guys and gals, I got a 15" macbook pro...about 2 yrs old now...working well for the most part...recently upgraded to leopard

an on-going issue I've had with my CD drive on this mac though is that it takes insanely long to load pictures into iphoto from a cd (constant spinning and noise) as well as an unknown error when I try burning ANYTHING. I even tried burning one picture onto a cd-rw tonight and it had an unknown error...

I guess I must replace the drive...but it plays dvds and cds no problem...

what do you all think? and if it's necessary to replace I am by no means a Mac guru....reccomendations?

thanks in advance

First, do you have applecare? If you do, take it in to a store if possible and bring some of the offending discs for them to see what's going on.

Otherwise, It looks like you may be doing a repair job yourself or paying someone to do it, and it's not cheap. iFixIt has an OEM replacement part with installation instructions for $200. OWC has a non-OEM for $150 also with instructions.
