CD/DVD drive very noisy during playing CDs/DVDs

I've noticed that if I play, say, an audio CD on my MBP, the CD/DVD drive always gets really noisy, making the listening experience unpleasant. I guess wanting to watch a movie on CD/DVD would be a pain as well because you'd really have to turn up the volume to the highest notch to hear it well.

Is there a way to make the drive play CDs/DVDs in a more quiet mode or something?
