cd/dvd reading problem

hi,
iam using mac pro intel board mac os 10.5.8 n optiarc dvd rw ad-7170a
the p'blem is sometimes my dvd drive is not opening n sometimes it is opening but its not reading the disk whether it cld b cd/dvd.
i tried by updating my system including firmware, but still i didnt get the solution.
can anybody suggest me how to resolve my issue.
