CD rom drive dead? iMac

I think I know the answer but would someone verify for me please

So I insert a DVD into my computer an hour ago and it wouldn't work period… I tried several different media but nothing worked… I rebooted I heard the CD drive mechanisms spin up but it wouldn't recognize any disks. Here is the kicker I even pulled the CD drive out of my Mini and plopped it into my iMac and it worked fine… except for the fact it was smaller… is there anything I can do to fix it I have my new iMac coming but I ordered it with the Ati 4850 in it so it will be awhile

Okay never mind I just reinserted the DVD and it works after all the ordeal from above…
