Will Asurion support insurance for the iPhone if/when released to Sprint and/or Verizon? Doubtful, right?

No idea.

However, unlike GSM phones, a CDMA phone is marked invalid in the carrier's database when it's reported stolen and cannot be activated.

Therefore the usual scam of reporting a device stolen but actually selling it, won't work. Also, it can't be sold for overseas use, which cuts out that scam as well.

Having no idea of the terms of you policy, or the insurance company in question, wouldn't the insurance cover the device regardless of carrier?

In USA maybe, here in UK if phone is reported stolen all carriers block it. Will only work abroad, as there is alas no worldwide blocking database.
