So I am in the midwest on vacation (family lives here) and was curious about the extended network coverage. Well I got some pretty spotty service so I dialed *228 to update my PRL and my signal got allot better. Just now I noticed I was on verizons "extended" network...pretty interesting I've never heard much about it. 1xRTT only on US Cellular as allot of Verizon is over here (Milwaukee, Wisconsin area). I think the data roaming switch is only for international stuff as it didn't block me from using data on the extended network but toggling it a bit did help get more of the extended signal. The place I stay is horrendous for signal, Verizon only broadcasts on 1900Mhz while US Cellular broadcasts on both 1900Mhz and 850Mhz...850Mhz obviously penetrates better through things like concrete walls :p haha.
