CDs get stuck in external player using iTunes

About once a week when I insert a CD in my La Cie external player it appears quickly on iTunes but then disappears from iTunes and the desktop and I can't get it out of the player except by restarting my iMac (using 10.5.7). Only does this since installed the latest iTunes update. Do I just have go back to the previous iTunes version if I can get it?
