Just now while copying data from one external drive (Seagate Barracuda 320 GB sata 7200 rpm in Sabrent enclosure) to another (Seagate Barracuda 320 GB sata 7200 rpm in Azio enclosure), I heard my cell phone (Sony-Ericsson W810i) negotiating with the cell tower in my speakers (JBL Creature speakers, gray), while simultaneously the drive in the Sabrent enclosure improperly disconnected from my laptop (Macbook Pro 1.83 Ghz, OS X 10.4.8). The cell phone was less than a foot from both enclosures and the subwoofer.
Coincidence? I had been having trouble earlier in the evening with multiple failed copy attempts between the drives with the cell phone in the same position, but had not heard the cell phone through the speakers then. In all cases, the Sabrent enclosure simply disconnected in Finder while still being powered on. With the cell phone moved away, I have now copied all 40 GB or so without issue. I recall reading on Digg or some other site about Dell computers shutting off in the presence of some cell phones when they were called. Anyone else experience anything like this?
