I understand this is uncharted territory, but I'm wondering if anyone has an idea of what the procedure might be when upgrading to a Series 4 from a Series 3 in terms of activating the cellular service. I spoke with Apple over the phone and they said I would need to call Verizon (which I'm dreading) in order to switch over. I was hoping it would be a simple process, but I'm preparing for the worst.

I've gone through it just from replacing my Series 3 or needing to restore/reset it at some points in the past year.

Pretty easy to do - when you unpair your Series 3 you get a few options for how to handle the cellular data connection. I don't recall the verbiage exactly, but there's an option to remove it from the watch but keep it on your account. And then when you set up a new watch that has cellular, it offers to use that cellular plan on the watch being setup.
