Hello,

I am thinking about upgrading my Apple Watch from the first generation model I have.

Cellular quite appeals to me, but I'm not clear how it works. I thought you could just pair with your iPhone and it would piggyback off the phone number and contract that the phone was on.

Reading last night, and it seems like this is wrong, and you need a separate plan for a watch, like you would if you had two mobiles. Is this correct? I'm on a pay monthly on O2 in the UK if that's any help.

Thanks in advance,

You do effectively take out a new plan, but it has he same number has your iPhone.

I am on EE and pay £5 a month for it. It works great - I can leave my phone at home (or turn it off) and i still can make or receive calls from the same phone number. Mail and iMessages work too, though for SMS the iPhone will need to be on for the SMS relay I believe?

I believe O2 operate the same - you need a pay monthly contract (you already have this)

Hope this helps

Thanks Bill, that's exactly what I wanted to know.
Just about to finish paying off the device plan part of my contract - iPhone X. I usually upgrade my phone every two years, and I am tempted by the dark green 11 pro. I think I'd benefit more from the advances made in the Apple Watch since the first gen. The health stories in the keynote resinated with me, as there's a history of heart disease in my family.
So the savings of paying off my phone could go towards the additional Apple Watch plan.

Thanks again.
