I have Homepod set up as speakers for my Apple TV and it works fine on most Apps but in particular Britbox and TVPlayer it wont play through yet it will play through my TV speaker, is there anything I can do to work around this anddoes anyone know the reason why it won't work on certain Apps?

The app developers probably have not implemented support for AirPlay in their apps. The NFL and MSNBC apps are the same way.

Just as a suggestion you might want to consider subscribing to the Britbox Channel in the TV app. I would guess you would be able to get AirPlay to work then.

Yes, I realize the Britbox app does not support AirPlay.

My suggestion was to try the Channel in the TV app. You can find it here:

You will get the exact same content in the Channel as you do in the app along with support for AirPlay.

Forgive my ignorance but is there a certain way of subscribing through your ion? cos when I click it it just shows the image. So I wonder how I actually subscribe through it?

On your Apple TV, an iOS device or on your Mac open the TV app and scroll down to the where you see the Channels, as in the image above.

Scroll over to the Britbox icon and select it.

After selecting the Britbox icon you will see something like this image:

Select the "Try It Free" button. Be aware this will sign you up for an additional subscription to Britbox though your iTunes account. If you are satisfied with using the Britbox Channel in the TV app be sure and cancel your subscription through the stand-alone app. You don't want to end up with two subs to the same service.

Are you in the US? It looks like it from your list of apps. I'm in the UK and I don't see the UK BritBox in the list.

I was wondering if you were in the US because my list of channels as you can see is a lot different to yours and there is no BritBox I'm in the UK

I have several ATV apps that don't work with Homepods.

Also I have some ATV apps that do send audio output to Homepods but the lip-sync is way out, making it unwatchable. Channels (for watching free-to-air TV via an HDHomerun box) is one that I find gradually creeps out of sync. I end up using my old hifi with HDMI cable to the ATV.

I’m having similar issues with an Apple TV and Sonos One SL. I had thought that using airplay would be fairly simple but I seem to be constantly switching the sound output on and off to get it working.
