not sure if this is a problem with me or my internet connection or if something larger is going on, but all of a sudden yesterday (i went downstairs to get some water and then things got weird when i came back upstairs) certain websites i go to regularly and my chat clients (AIM, Fire) stopped being able to connect. The AIM client gives me a "timed out" error message, and i can't get www.cnn.com or hotmail.com to open. the status bar on the browser (Firebird) stays on "connecting to hotmail.com" and never does anything else. other sites (incl. this one) work fine. i checked my wireless router; nothing wrong there.

if the chat client hadn't stopped working, i'd assume it was just a problem with CNN. But since I also can't get on to AIM, I thought I might check and see if anyone knows what might be causing this.

i didn't change anything on my system and haven't installed any new software anytime recently. i also tried using another browser and i experienced the same problems.

thanks!

this is the exact text of the AIM error message:
"The connection could not be completed because it timed out. Try again"

I am also getting errors in Safari that report a timeout after 60 seconds.

What could be causing this?
