Abode today at CES 2020 in Las Vegas introduced a new security camera that can be used both indoors or outdoors.

The modular security camera has many commonly seen features like 1080p video recording, a 152-degree field of view, infrared night vision, motion sensing, facial recognition, a built-in microphone and speaker for two-way communication, and IP65-rated water and dust resistance.

Abode said it has submitted the camera for HomeKit certification, which would allow live video to be streamed in the Home app and for the camera to be controlled with Siri voice commands. It is unclear how long this process will take.

An included doorbell mount allows the camera to be installed flush against the door and powered by existing doorbell wiring, or a corded attachment can be used to mount the camera outdoors and have it powered by a standard outlet. Abode will also be releasing a model with a built-in doorbell button in the future.

The camera will be available for $199 starting in the first quarter of 2020.

†he winner in this space is going to be the company with the best privacy.

And I don’t mean some privacy policy nobody reads and will change in the future when some MBA realizes they can make more money on customer data than the hardware they are selling. Privacy must be at a tecnnical level.

I can’t wait to rip all of the Ring devicses out of my house the second a viable alternative with privacy is there. We’re close, but not all the way.

Lol yeah. At first I thought I could bundle this with my Lightroom subscription.

I read this as Adobe until I saw this post

"Had to do a double take on this for a second as I read it as "Adobe launching..." as opposed to "Abode launching..."

I looked around the Abode website and didn't spot information about privacy. It doesn't seem to be one of their selling points.

How about letting us know if this supports recording the video stream? I’m sure it does, but to a cloud for subscription based service (non-starter for me) vs. locally with ONVIF support, etc.

These guys *really* didn't think much about having an easily-recognizable name unlikely to be confused with another company, did they...

All I need to know is how much these cameras increase the cost of my Creative Cloud subscription.
