Belkin today announced the upcoming launch of a new Wemo WiFi Smart Plug, which will be joining the company's line of Wemo smart home products.

The Wemo WiFi Smart Plug is the smallest yet in the Wemo lineup, and it is designed to integrate with Apple's HomeKit as well as Alexa and Google Assistant.

Using the Wemo app, Siri commands, or the Home app, those in the Apple ecosystem can wirelessly control lamps, heaters, fans, or more with the smart plug. Belkin plans to launch the new Wemo WiFi Smart Plug in the spring of 2020, and it will be priced at $24.99.

Also new to Wemo is the Wemo Stage, a control accessory that can be programmed with up to six scenes or settings activated using short presses or long presses.

The Wemo Stage works with HomeKit, so it can be set to activate Siri scenes created in the Home app with multiple HomeKit products. The Wemo Stage is set to launch in the summer of 2020 and it will be priced at $50.

The existing WeMo's got HomeKit support via a firmware update, I think this is important to note.

Wish Feit's wifi bulbs would do this as well, considering HomeKit banded with other solutions for being openly used.

The Hue dimmer can set 4 Homekit scenes for $20, just saying. You can even have 8 scenes with 2 switches and still $10 in pocket.

And in the beginning of Homekit support they actually also exposed the long press action which would bring them up to 8 scenes per dimmer. I just don’t know what happened there that you can’t use the long press anymore. But still.

I REALLY wish companies would create Smart Plugs that had plugs to the sides. I rarely want the outlet straight out from the wall, I prefer to have it heading down the wall or to the side so I can place furniture nearby without hitting the cord coming off the plug.

Yeah, I use those APC surge protectors that fasten directly to the outlet, and they have 6 side outlets which are terrific.

You want the Lutron Caseta wall plug. And it has outlets on both sides.

This may be what you're looking for. I have 3 of them and they've been pretty good.

Neither of these are available any longer

I've got two Wemo outlets and would definitely consider buying more. They work pretty well for me, even in marginal WiFi conditions where other smart outlets needed a repeater to connect.

Lutron Caseta wall plug dimmer is still listed on the Lutron web site and available at my local Lowes. I didn't check any of the several places that Lutron says you can buy them.

I tried both Wemo and iDevices. Spent more than almost 2 hours (including time on phone with customer service) getting devices working only to have them lose the connection and need to be set up again. I could never get Wemo set up correctly so that it was recognized for firmware update

Lutron was set up and working in less than 10 minutes. Never lost a connection. Spend the extra money.
