As part of CES 2021, Pioneer today introduced its latest in-dash receiver with support for both wired and wireless CarPlay and Android Auto.

The new DMH-WC5700NEX receiver features a modular design, combining a 6.8-inch touchscreen with a hideaway control unit for installation flexibility in a wide variety of vehicles with limited or restricted dash space, according to Pioneer.

By physically separating the touchscreen from the sub-chassis that contains the CPU and other components, the sub-chassis can be mounted in a different location or orientation within the vehicle. This setup is useful for vehicles with limited depth behind the dash that prohibits the installation of a traditional single-DIN or double-DIN receiver.

"With the DMH-WC5700NEX, Pioneer provides an automotive upgrade solution for many different vehicles that typically have been extremely restrictive or even impossible with regard to the installation of an aftermarket in-dash receiver, including several popular late model Chevrolet vehicles such as the Silverado and Camaro," said Ted Cardenas, vice president of marketing for Pioneer Electronics USA.

The receiver's other features include Bluetooth connectivity, built-in HD Radio, SiriusXM readiness, RGB illumination, rear camera input, a HDMI video input for rear seat entertainment, 4V RCA preamplifier outputs, and more.

Pioneer plans to release the DMH-WC5700NEX in summer 2021, but it has not yet disclosed pricing. The company released a similar 9-inch receiver last year.

I'm sure its just the picture/render, but the bezels are not as black as the blackest part of the screen. It looks like the screen has rounded corners and inset about 1/16th an inch from the bezels.

Yeah it's just a mock up. Me thinks the real deal wouldn't have those rounded corners, or battery status.

What I like about new cars is that the LCD is in a high position. So you can look the screen (GPS) without taking the eyes out of the road.

I'd really like to replace the head unit in our VW Alltrack. The EQ controls are atrocious. 3-band … really?
Don't settle for anything that doesn't have more bands-7, 13 AND has time correction/alignment. That makes a huge improvement to sound stage.

Wow, I have a Subaru STI with the Nav/Harmon Kardon audio and it's the same thing....that is crazy....all I get is high, mid, low and I can't even change the center frequencies of them. I would expect better as these are made for Subaru by Clarion. I've had some very amazing Clarion head units before, but I guess OEM is different.

I've really wanted to get CarPlay over the years, but I doubt I'll ever spend enough time in my car again to actually get one, or even a new car for that matter. The future is now.

The rounded corners was added I think in ios11 the screen would be rectangular but CarPlay displays rounded edges

I've been waiting for this. Alpine has a similar solution at 1300€... + extras, so I'm hoping this one is a bit more economical.

It's nice to see this. I bet it works better than my iDrive 6 in my BMW with it's jacked up half screen CarPlay.
Sure wish BMW released software updates.......................................

Sadly most built-in factory systems these days are all about the boom and sizzle. High-bass and midrange frequencies are just a mud fest.

Agreed! I've even thought about that for iphones – why not add user-customization? For some, 7 or more graphic bands or even a parametric with adjustable Q would be handy. Would be really easy to integrate as an option. And while were at it, move the EQ selector to the control center!

Totally do it! Replacing the head unit in an old car makes SUCH a difference! And spring for the money to add a backup cam; again so worth it.

You can get good in-depth reviews of many head units here.
Personally one thing I would concentrate on, which reviews often do not, is how good the screen is in terms of brightness, contrast, and glossy reflection. Too many screens are almost impossible to read when the sun is at the wrong angle of the sky.

I will never purchase another pioneer head unit after that garbage AppRadio 4. They will not acknowledge the screen de-laminating over time. For the price, these devices need to last more than a year and a half. No thanks.
No issues with AppRadio 4 here, been using it for coming up on 4 years now.

Yes, I will completely agree with you on that. And it's really difficult to replace them as they are integral to the operation of a lot of the cars. I guess one could figure our an alternate location for a new head unit and and amps. Then feed improved speakers in the factory locations.

Rounded corners is what CarPlay looks like now. The battery status appears when using wireless CarPlay.
The black on the bezels should match the black on the corners. It also looks like the screen is set in from the bezels by a very small amount, which would make it very hard to clean around the edge of the screen, and it just looks awful.

I'm surprised and saddened to read all the hate for Pioneer head units. When I was a lad they were the cream of the crop! I guess that happens to every company at the top at some point.
