Scosche at CES is showing off a new version of its BaseLynx 2.0 Modular Charging System, with the updated model offering support for the new Qi2 wireless charging standard.

A MagSafe version of the BaseLynx 2.0 launched in Apple retail stores earlier this year, but the new model will be available directly from Scosche as of this spring.

The BaseLynx is a multi-component charging system with modules that include a 2-in-1 Qi2 charger that works with the iPhone and AirPods, an Apple Watch Stand with fast charging support, a multi-device vertical charging station that provides 60W for up to three devices, and an end cap with an AC outlet and 67W USB-C port. The Qi2 wireless charging base is able to charge an iPhone at up to 15W, the same as MagSafe.

With all of the BaseLynx components, the setup can charge an iPhone, AirPods, Apple Watch, iPad, MacBook, and more all at one time in one organized spot on a desktop.

Alongside the BaseLynx 2.0, Scosche also introduced the PowerVolt 150W USB-C Desk Charger With 4 USB-C ports, the PowerVolt 30W USB-C Home Charger, and the PowerVolt 40W USB-C Car Adapter able to provide 20W per USB-C port.

Scosche's products are set to launch later this year.

I don’t get the use case for this. The vertical would be great for a living room when guests come over, but then it has a single watch charger like you might find on a nightstand. Is it personal or communal? Both? I don’t even know what room this goes in.

It's modular, hence the post title. What you are looking at in the pic is 4+ pieces sold separately. If you didn't need a watch charger to go with your dish rack, you wouldn't need to buy it. I doubt you even have to arrange those pictured pieces in that order.

I think the product line itself is an "okay" idea, but the problem with modules sold separately is that there is a bunch of redundant packaging etc. as you build your ideal setup, and that surely can't help with cost...

Speaking of cost, if I wanted to build a kit of parts for my iPhone, Watch, and maybe a 120V outlet, I am spending orders of magnitude more than I would on already-available combos from other manufacturers. The "Scosche" brand would have to really be a draw over Anker or others, and for me it absolutely is not.

At least for me, I’d use the the iPhone/Apple Watch charger for that, and then the dish rack addition would be used for my iPad mini, Kobo, and (now sold) 11” iPad Pro.

As for what room, it would be massive on my night stand so likely my desk, but even then I’d have to put it away when not in use cause of the size, and for overnight charging having the iPhone and Watch on a stand would be redundant, so I’m now lost too.

The outlet would be redundant so that I wouldn’t get. But the whole thing just looks outdated and clunky

If the MagSafe version of the BaseLynx is $280, how much will this updated monstrosity 🤮 cost?

Thanks. It’s too easy to see the pic, get overwhelmed by the complexity, miss the part about it being modular, and write it off.

Love the modular approach. That lets consumers construct a charging station to meet their needs. Need to charge two watches? No problem! Just add another Watch module.

I think it's a great approach, but I don't think it will age well. Version 2.0 won't be compatible with Version 1.0, I bet.

Awful. We have the first gen and love it. The triple stand section with cord plugs at the back rarely gets used but the flat phone charger and two (we bought and extra one) watch chargers that can lie flat or stand up (loop bands) are great and in grey and white it is nice looking.

Dating myself here, but I remember Scoshe as a company who’s big claim to fame were car radio mounting adapter plates that allowed after market stereo head units to be mounted into just about any car.

A buddy of mine owned an installation business and he literally had a “wall” of them for the different vehicle types. Scoshe had a guide where you looked up the car and it would give you the correct adapter.

Did not know they were still a thing.

Ah, thats where my drying rack went… and my bikes wing mirror casing, my power adapter, my usb hub… and what… i wondered where my macbooks trackpad got to.

Give it back…

I thought Qi2 stuff was supposed to be cheaper than licensed from Apple 'Made for MagSafe' ones were that offer the same 15W charging speeds. But everything is sounding completely overpriced again.

So yet more ridiculous prices being banded about on previews for almost all this charging crap.
