It really doesn’t make sense having to wait 3-4 weeks while with other retailers like BestBuy I could pick it up next week (but I needed to get it from the educational store). At least I get the AirPod Pros tomorrow lol.

Unfortunately apple's estimates seem to be accurate. I'm still waiting on mine, another 2 weeks to go

Check out Best Buy. Each morning some models come back in stock and generally sell out in a couple hours. I just snagged an ipad and keyboard with next day shipping for free on the keyboard and only 20 bucks on the ipad.
My iPP is coming 2 days earlier than the earliest original estimate of July 24 thru 30. Ordered June 23 and its out for delivery today.
It’s hard to say sometimes. In my experience, more often than not, Apple under-promises and over-delivers. That was not the case with my 2020 iPad Pro though—I had to wait like 3 weeks for it and it got here the exact day they Originally predicted. And the Magic Keyboard took even longer.
i kept my order through Apple to get my military discount, even thought BB had some versions of my 12.9 iPP. I placed my order on 01 July with an initial delivery of 03-07 August. It shipped a couple days ago from China with a delivery date of 30 July.
I just sold my 2018 11inch iPP and ordered the 2020 version and it’s going to be a month...Oh well. I have my 12.9inch to hold me over until then.
I wonder what’s causing the back log? ive looked at buying one but the dates have slipped to late August.
While this is true and needs to be taken into account, why did Apple give me a 6+ week delivery time (which I cancelled the order because of) and had it 4 days later from Amazon?

Same deal for me when I ordered my 12.9" Magic Keyboard. I had originally ordered the 11" model from Apple, which arrived pretty quickly because I ordered it the second they were available. The problem was I had decided to upgrade to the 12.9" 2020 Pro by then, so I had to return it. So I sold my 11" 2018 Pro, returned the 11" Magic Keyboard, and ordered all my new 12.9" stuff. The iPad itself immediately backordered out to 3 weeks and the Magic Keyboard backordered out even further.
My 2020 12.9" iPad Pro arrived pretty much on schedule, but the Magic Keyboard for it that I ordered direct from Apple was still another couple weeks out. I checked Best Buy and they had them available for next day delivery, so I cancelled my Apple order and went with Best Buy instead.
Pretty crazy sometimes how other sellers have more Apple stock than Apple has.
Not entirely sure. Could be a few things. Newer models coming out, supply chain issues with COVID, things like that. I just wish I saw that before I told my cousin she could buy my current 11inch iPP. Oh well!

Just curious, what are the benefits of having the 2020 over the 2018? On paper they look roughly the same.
I had a family member that was interested in a 2018 model so I sold it to them for a pretty good price and was able to replace it with the 2020 version for the difference. Honestly, if they weren't interested in it, I would still have the 2018.
