Change airport MAC Address

Hey folks,
Do any of you know if changing the mac address of the Airport extreme card in my powerbook is possible. I tried doing a

ifconfig en1 ether 00:99:99..etc

but it says

ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCAIFADDR): permission denied

I know you can do this with normal pc cards, and with the ethernet(i've done it before). So far, i love my powerbook and the wireless is great, but the airport cards are lame when it comes to fun wardriving kinds of stuff and packet sniffing, emulating mac addresses.. probably a good thing

Any thoughts?

thats the one i got, and it says everything in three sweet simple words.

btw, wardriving with a mac is major fun
and i'm sure youve heard of it already, but theres an app called KisMac thats really nice

Which card do you use to do your wardriving with? I'm gonna be in a city this year and would love to do some warwalking or warpublictransportationing (no car ). From what I can tell the orinoco cards are the way to go, but are they mac friendly? They seem to be a standard so I would assume, but thats a dangerous thing to do.
