Hello all,

Is there anyway to change an applications dock icon while leaving the icon in finder different?

Not directly, but you can make an alias to the application (alias, not soft-link), then change the icon of the alias and drop it in your Dock. I believe it will still have the alias marker, but it will have your new icon.

Save a copy of the App icon somewhere
Change the App icon
Make a Dock "alias"
Restore the App icon

????

Worth a shot

Restore the App icon

That is only going to work until the next time the Dock refreshes the icon. Often that happens when you click on it, or something changes in the Dock. This idea will only cause you grief.

Then you have to keep that alias around.

Too bad my idea doesn't work. I didn't think about it "referencing" its original location.
