Change Gmail address

I currently have a Gmail address that is firstname.lastname@gmail.com. I can also login with firstnamelastname@gmail.com (without the dot) to the same account and I'd like to change my official address to the later one and get rid of the other one. How?

Email names - generally, everything before the @ - ignore the dots. So firstname.lastname is the same as firstnamelastname as far as the email server is concerned.

Not sure exactly what you mean here; you can just leave out the dot when you give the address to people and/or sign up for services. As already posted above, the dot is purely aesthetic and is ignored by the email server.

But since firstname.lastname@gmail.com is the same as firstnamelastname@gmail.com, if you have one, I doubt you'd be able to sign up for the other. I think the OP is stuck.
