This is odd. Previously (on iPad 3 and iPhone 5, Safari, Mercury, or Chrome), an underlined link displayed unobtrusively, almost as a whisper on the bottom of the word:
After updating to iOS 8, letters with tails now break the underline, so that it almost looks as if "Disney" ends in a period:
I guess they're trying to make links look prettier, but I think it makes the link look awkward and clunky, especially when hot-linked letters ending in "y" now look as if they've got a period on the end.
Some may prefer this. I see it as an unnecessary visual complication.
