Change iPhone backup location?

I've found a few solutions online that require terminal input. That's fine but those were all pretty old and pre Mavericks.

Can anyone give me the current step by step guide to move my iPhone 5 (local) backups off the smallish system SSD and to my external data drive?

Very much appreciated.
