I have a SSD drive. I do not need the backups from my 64gb iPhone and 64gb iPad to be taking up space there when they could be sitting on my external drive with my itunes library.

How can I change the iTunes backup location?

Equipment: Mt. Lion 10.8.2, iTunes 10.7, 2011 Mini, all latest software versions on the iDevices.

I would like to know this as well. I have the 2TB Time Capsule and would like to do my backups to that but havent figured out how.

I had the same issue. From what I've read on the subject it seems that iTunes backs up on your Mac and then the Mac backups the iPhone on the TC when it's doing its usual back up.

Any way to move the backup files to the TC and off my already filling up 128 GB Mac Air?

Please forgive if this is a basic question...I'm a computer dummy

Unfortunately I don't know, I'm not a computer scientist as well:) You could always back up to iCloud to save HDD space on your MBA. That's the best solution I would have for you. Until maybe someone more knowing comes along to this thread...

That helped out a lot. But I had to delete the original "Backup" folder, and omit it in the command. If I used the command provided by the example, the Backup folder would be inside the Backup folder, instead of pointing directly to the backup files.

My line was this:

Code:
ln -s "/Volumes/FILES/Apple Devices Backups/Backup" "/Users/username/Library/Application Support/MobileSync"

Hope it helps.
