iPad Change phone number in iMessage on iPad?

I got a new iPad and when I set it up the phone number it used is one that I have for an unlocked iPhone that I use out of the country. I want to change it to my regular cell phone number and I have tried everything but can not figure out how to do it. Even set it as new two times and still the same number shows up. Any suggestions?
