Change Root Password for iPhone on Mac

When I type in my IP address in terminal to change the root password I get connection refused. I'm typing in the IP address correctly, does anyone know why this is happening? Should i try to do it through the terminal app on the iPhone instead?

You can either do it on via terminal on the iPhone or via your Mac if ssh is running on the phone

I got MobileTerminal through Cydia but it won't open. I need SSH also?
