Change Spelling and Grammar Checker in Word: mac 2004

Im taking a french class and I need to be able to type compositions in french. I can't seem to figure out how to make word check my grammar and spelling mistakes in french. Can anyone help me out?

Try setting the following preference to French. You might need to deselect your custom dictionary to get it to work.

Word > Preferences > Spelling and Grammar > Dictionaires > Language > French

or you might need to select the text and use Tools > Language
