Change Spotlight behaviour?

is there a way to possibly change Spotlight behaviour? I find the new way rather obstructive especially if i just need it for a quick calculator usage. Another behaviour that i'm starting to miss from pre-Yosemite days, is the quick view type window that shows up when you hovered over. A terminal tweak or something like it?
