Change the device name of external hard drive? [Trick question.]

I know how to change the name of a partition. But I want to change the name of the actual device.

I want to change that. Any ideas?

Go to Sharing in system prefs and change the computer name to whatever you want.

Pretty sure you can't change the bit you have highlighted. It's like a device identifier. It's fixed against that drive.

What does it matter? You never see it other than for Disk Utility / System Profiler.

Ed is correct. That is hard coded into the drive. I thought you just wanted change the name in the Finder.
