In iOS6 you could change the 'iPad' string in the status bar by
> going to \system\library\coreservices\springboard.app
> find the K48AP.plist (or similar)
> edit the key: devicename, iPad
to whatever name you wanted.

In iOS7 no such .plist appears in the springboard.app folder.

Can anyone tell me where to find the relevant .plist in iOS7?

thx,
Henry

You could just use FakeCarrier to change the name.

Yep, but that overrides the carrier name as well.

I'm used to have 'MyPad' in status bar as long as on WiFi only and to change it to the carrier name when mobile data are turned on.
This prevents (me) from forgetting to turn mobile data off...

Anyone familiar with the new directory structure to give me a lead?
