change user home directory name

I am setting up a friend's new MacBook Pro running 10.7.4 and I can not change her short name after I migrate her account from her old computer. I followed the directions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1428. Specifically at step 6, I do not get the option to "...use that folder as the Home folder for this user account?". Instead, I'm told the user already exist and I can not use that name.

The old computer was a Macbook running 10.5.8.

Any suggestions?
