Changing AAC or Mp3 File to "Podcast" doesn't synch with iphone 4 under "podcast"

Hi, just stumped apple care with this question. If i change a mp3 or aac file under get info in itunes to 'media kind podcast', it puts the files under podcasts in itunes....great. THen when you synch the iphone 4 and make sure all podcasts are synched with phone the podcast doesn't show up under podcasts in the ipod player of the phone, it says there are no podcasts you can go to itunes to download some. If you search for the file under artists it's there as a podcast! Anyone else have this problem? If i change the same file to an 'audiobook' in itunes that synches and shows up fine on the phone under books....interesting.The reason i like changing long mp3 or aac files to "podcasts" is for a way to remember when you last played or bookmark the file when you come back to it and don't have to start playing from the beginning. Thanks
