Hello. I installed Age of Empires II on my Mac OSX and the application has a generic icon.

I found a replacement icon on Deviant Art.
See here: http://pornomaniac.deviantart.com/art/Age-of-Empires-II-Dock-Icon-42872745

I tried to replace it using this method:
 Use File-->Get Info on the icon you want to use and then the same on the application you want to change
 Click the small icon in the upper left corner of the icon's Get Info window to select it, then press Command+C to copy it.
 Click the small icon in the top left of the application's Get Info window to select it, then press Command+V to paste in the custom icon
 Close both windows- done.

When I did this the icon for AOE2 changed to the icon for a PNG file. I used IMG2ICNS.app to try and then use the same method as above but this did not rectify the situation either. Your help is very much apprciated. I do not like staring at the generic app icon :p (or the PNG one either)

That's because you don't Get Info on the picture. Double-click the pic to open it in Preview, then Command-C to copy it. Then continue with the rest of the steps.

Note step 1 in this post: To change the icon for any disk, app, file or folder

Thanks for responding. Though it still is not working.

I have clicked "Get Info" for both the AOE2 app and the .png file and they are side by side. I have unlocked both the app and the .png in the bottom right. In the .png's "Get Info" I click the image in the top left. Press Command-C then i click on the image in the top left of the "Get Info" for the app. Then the PNG icon image clears momentarily to a dotted box then the PNG icon image reappears.

I also opened the .png in Preview. Pressed Command-A to select it, then pressed Command-C to copy. Then I clicked on the .png image in the top left of "Get Info" for the app and pressed Command-V but the same thing happens.

This app icon is being stubborn.

You don't ever click "Get Info" on the .png file. Re-read the instructions in the link I posted. For step one, open the .png in Preview and press Command-C. There is no need to press Command-A. Then proceed with the other steps in the link I posted.
