I have been customizing my powerbook, to get rid of the blue folder look of tiger. I have used shapeshifter to mod os x and candybar to change all the icons to my liking, yet there are some icons that are harder to change.

Such as the folders in the safari bookmarks page. I understand how to change these by opening the contents of safari.app and changing the files there.

Yet, the one icon i can not change is the one under system preferences called "Sharing". As you can see it has the blue folder look, and i would like to change that.

Does anybody know where this icon is located, and how i can get there.

Thanks,

AAA

can't you change that one useing candybar?
if you drag the system pref's app into the candybar window(there is one for changing applications own icons) does it allow you to change that icon that way?

i'm not on my mac right now so i can't test it out.

No, I had thought this to, but Candybar only allows you to change the screensaver and one other icon, not that one.

Wow, thanks for the quick response.

Yea, i know that this stuff is risky if i am not careful, but i have a backup of everything and am only changing the icon files.

Thanks again!

Ok, I changed the file, yet when i load system preferences nothing is changed. Should i try a restart, or clearing the caches?

You should at least log out. The System Preference icons don't rebuild until you do that. Reboot, etc...

Ok, i just restarted, and still no change.

I do have shapeshifter modding the os, but idk if that makes a differences. I had to delete some files from the shapeshifter cache to change some of safari and mail's icons, but i looked through the cache for system pref. icons and didn't find or see any.

Strange, I know it works when you remove preference panes. I've never changed the icons though.

should i try removing the .plist from the preference panes, or would that just damage it
You'll only lose your settings. It'll build a new preference list file when you open it again.

Yea, that didn't work.

Alright, well the file is changed, so idk where it is reading the old file icon from, but if you figure anything out, just post it.

Thanks

It's owned by "system" I can't change the icon even as admin. I think you might have to change the ownership of that prefPane file and then paste the icon on it.

Wait, so how would i go about this, i changed the sharing preference to owned by me, so i can read and write. Now what....

WOW, that took a while to figure out, but finally i replaced it.

To replace it, you have to find the sharingpref.icns file and create another .icns file with the same name and replace the original sharingpref.icns file.

If anybody would like help on changing the systempref files just visit this website http://iheartny.com/howto_03.html and then delete the cache folder with the two systempref files.

Thanks for all the help in figuring this one out

Yeah, I can't believe I didn't figure that out. I have some self taught developer knowledge. I found that nice little .tiff after examining the package contents.
