Changing Boot Icons

Apologies if this has been covered but I've searched and not sure if the results related to my question. How do you change the disk icons of apple and windows that appear during startup? I've seen candybar mentioned and also others mentioning NTFS for writing to the windows disk but all this info is from 3 years ago. If it matters I'm on a late 2012 27". Any help would be appreciated.

Ok so some more digging and I came across refit and it's successor refind. I definitely like the look of refind and its options however the install process is a bit more than I expected. I am not computer illiterate but I know when to ask for help. Anyone have a dumbed down installation process for a first time mac user?
