Changing carrier on iPhone upgrade plan

Hi everyone, I am currently on the iPhone upgrade plan with T-Mobile and want to change to Verizon. I know the T-Mobile version is not compatible with Verizon. Does anyone know the process for switching over since you are supposed to be able to use any carrier with the iUP? Also would I be able to just go in and get an iPhone 8 or preorder an iPhone X on Verizon? Thanks
