Hi everyone. I'm a very new mac user. I just got my very first macbook pro in the mail yesterday (new macbook pro 13". Not the base model, but the other one), so I need all the help I can get.

I was exploring iChat and noticed for some reason the display name at the top wasn't my own but my father's name and I have no idea why. No idea how it got there. I was wondering how I can change it to my own name? I tried watching youtube videos, google sites but I still couldn't figure it out.

I have attached an image to show you what I am having trouble changing. I have it boxed in red with a black arrow pointing to it.

Can anyone please give me detailed instructions on how to change my name? I know it can be done..but I am just having trouble figuring it out, plus it's getting late and my brain is slowly starting to turn off...;P

I have Lion installed (what it came with) on my mac if that helps any.

Thanks everyone!! :)

I saw that link already... I apologize if I'm about to sound dumb but I already got lost on the 3rd step. Here are the steps from that site you provided me with:

1. Quit iChat if it is open.
2. Open Address Book.
3. Choose Card > Show My Card.
4. Click the Edit button.
5. Edit your first and last name.
6. Save changes by clicking the Edit button again or by selecting a different card.
7. Open iChat. Your revised name appears after you log in.

Now my question is...Where do I choose "card?" Am I supposed to see a link that says "card"? Because I don't see one.

I took a screen shot of what I"m looking at so you guys can help me better.

Looking at this screenshop, where would I go from here?

Thanks for all the help!!!

In Address Book, on your Menu Bar at the top of your screen, you'll see:

3. Choose Card > Show My Card.

This means:
A. There is a menu in the menubar whose name is "Card".
B. It has a menu item in it whose name is "Show My Card".
C. You should click the Card menu to display its menu items, then choose the item named.

As GGJStudios shows in the screenshot, there is a menu item "Go to My Card". So the actual wording of the menu item is slightly different from what was stated in the HT3051 article. Not too surprising, really, since the HT3051 article was last modified in September 2008. (I checked, and the menu item is named "Go to My Card" since at least OS version 10.4.11.)

To ensure complete clarity, the menubar is the bar at the top of the screen. It shows an Apple icon at the left, under which you'll find menu items like "About This Mac" and "Software Update". Next to the Apple-icon menu is a menu with the name of the program in bold, then the remaining menus for the program.
