Changing download settings for Firefox

I want to change the download settings of Firefox for certain types of files. For example right now I have any .docx files to just download. I rather change it to always just open since it saves it when it does that anyway. How can I do this? thanks for the help!

Adobe Flash Player

Hi, I'm running on a MacBook Pro OS X 10.4.11. I can't seem to run any web
videos anymore. I'm trying to download Adobe Flash Player version 10.0.45.2,
but I just noticed that I can't download any updates.

Could it be my settings or the netwark I'm using? Ether way, can someonr help me with my computer settings just to rule-that-out please?
This is driving me nuts!!!!!! Thank you.
