changing from Apple upgrade program to regular payment?

I wasn't thinking when I ordered the phone and selected The Apple upgrade program,
I usually give away my old phone to family members.

How easy is it to cancel the program? Can I change billing method without loosing place in line?

Does anyone have experience paying off the phone right away?
