It's not that difficult to do the procedure on your own machine. I am currently running a 500gb Seagate 5400.2 drive in my mbp right now and I find it indispensable for my work.
It's a matter of having the right now and don't be afraid about the cracking noise when you open it up. There are plastic clips above the DVD-RW drive and near the trackpad.

Instead of the Apple store, try to find a local apple service provider. My local one will do it for a fee of 100$
