Changing Icons w/o winterboard

I downloaded some icons that I would like to use. I've changed the names to icon@2x.ping. Do I need to touch the icon.ping file also. I've just left them there for a few changes and everything seemed to work fine. Just wondering why they're are two files for one icon.

I'm not an expert, but played around with this myself.

In those programs, that have icon@2x.png, just change that file and leave the icon@png. That worked for me. Some programs only have icon@png, then replace that one.

Don't know why there are two icon files.
