Changing Icons

I know how to change Icons when they are in the Ico format.... but now everytime I download Icon packs the files are coming in PNGs and I have no clue how to make a png my Icon.

I'd prefer to be able to do just that if there is a way, if not then is there a free converter?

For some reason neither IConverter or PngtoIco will work for me. (I am on Tiger)

install Developer tools and use Icon Composer to make an icon file with different sizes.

Or install the free img2icns, which is probably less effort.

Img2icns is what I meant, I had the name wrong.

This program will not open for me. After unzipping it I click to open it, it bounces twice in my dock and then dissappears. It doesn't open or even attempt to open.

I see, I'm sorry. Apparently, it's only Leopard and up.

Double click the png icon to open in preview > Save to desktop as pdf.
Open pdf in preview command c to copy then paste on the top folder icon on the get info menu.
I used to be able to use most formats via preview in Tiger/Leopard but SL only seems to allow pdf.
